My objective as a designer, says Aaron, is to produce pieces that will improve with use, like a good pair of shoes where the marks bear a story.

We say pull up a chair and settle in for the convivial evening (or leisurely lunch) with friends and family.

Turned from a solid block of laminated ash and finished with a white oil and wax, each side table will look different and unique, and they are liable to split in places due to thickness of the block, but this is intentional.

A settle is traditionally described as a long wooden bench with a backrest and arms originating in Europe in the 10th century. It was apparently derived from the chest, a resemblance often retained, with additional elements based on the monastic choir stall. The height of the backrest varied considerably and sometimes extended down to the floor.

By the 15th century, they had become standard articles of furniture in inns and taverns, whilst by the end of the 17th century domestic versions had nailed-on leather upholstery and for greater comfort the backrest was inclined, just like ours. It survived mainly in rural areas throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, before becoming popular again with the historicizing movements in design during the early part of the 20th century, especially in the United States.

This little step is a sturdy piece of kit with that features our Series One peg detail and is made to last from solid oak.

The lacquered versions employ the screw leg system and are made of ash. It can be easily carried and doubles as a small kids stool too.

Old Furniture, a poem by Dorset born Thomas Hardy, is an ode to beauty of furniture being handed down the generations, and David Irwin’s Hardy Barstool is a classic in the making.

Two chair typologies from the 19th century, Thomas Hardy’s birth century, inspired its design: firstly the Captain’s chair originally a low-backed wooden armchair and secondly, the Smokers bow, a low back Windsor, often used in smoking rooms, public houses, barbers shops and cottages.

The Ori Wall Mirror is designed to enhance the healthy home environment by maximizing light in the home. The mirror is hinged to reflect light around the room following the sun’s path throughout the day and makes for a generous bedroom or hallway mirror.

Made using solid ash wood and glass mirror, its simple brass hinges add a decorative but at the same time functional detail.

This sofa bed is a WELL Standard compliant day time sofa, a single put me up and a pull out double bed all in one. A versatile piece, designed in collaboration with wellbeing consultants Ekkist, the Ori Sofa Bed is made from solid ash with two slim mattresses filled with a combination of organic coir and wool. 

Add scatter cushions for day time comfort or remove the backrest for an alternative look.
